As a new mom, it was hard for me to remember even the most basic details of baby care throughout the day during the first two months of Squishy’s life. When Squishy was crying and I just couldn’t figure out why, it was so stressful. I felt like because I couldn’t figure out what he wanted that I was a bad mom. The Itzbeen Pocket Nanny would have definitely eased my stress if I started using it earlier.
The Itzbeen Pocket Nanny Timer is an electronic tool that is designed to helps moms and dads keep track of their baby’s basic needs. The timer helps parents remember the last time they fed and changed their babies, as well as the last time they went to sleep, and much more. The Itzbeen Pocket Nanny replaces charts, journals, and other methods used to keep track of baby’s basic needs.
The Itzbeen Pocket Nanny is handheld and easy to use. It has 4 timers that are easily adjustable and will probably save your life as a new mom! The timers display how long it has been since the last time baby needed a diaper change, feeding, and nap. There is an additional timer that you can use for anything- medication, exercise, last time you pumped (if breastfeeding), etc. There is a nursing reminder which helps moms remember which side baby nursed from last. And a back clip which allows you to clip the timer to your pants/belt/pocket or your diaper bag, for use on the go.
One thing I really like about the Itzbeen Pocket Nanny is that it features two kinds of lights. The first light feature is a soft-glow night light up at the top, which helps you find things in the dark while baby is sleeping. The second light feature is a display backlight, which lets you read the timers in the dark! I find these lights to be very useful to me when I wake up in the middle of the night to check on Squishy.
What I love about the Itzbeen timer is that for each timer it will turn red when you need to change your baby’s diaper, or feed them, etc. You can customize the settings for each timer’s limit, too. For the feeding timer, I have it set to 2 and a half hours before it will turn red. This is Squishy’s ideal feeding time at the earliest. If the timer goes off, I make sure that I check to see if he’s hungry- usually he is and will take his bottle and nap, but not all the time. I love that I don’t have to stress out about checking every few minutes to make sure he’s not hungry like I use to when he was first born.
Another great thing about this timer is that is has a lock button. If you lock the timer, no one (little kids especially!) can change the timer by accident which would force you to reset the timer. You would only be able to use the timer if it was unlocked. I also love that the Itzbeen has an optional timer alarm. If you decide to use the alarm, it will sound off whenever the time limit is reached- the button will turn red and the alarm will sound. I use the alarm during the day because the timer is not always with me, so when it sounds I can easily remember that I need to check his diaper or see if he needs a feeding or a nap.
The Itzbeen would have helped me out so much during Squishy’s first few months of life. I found that using a chart to try and figure out what his diaper change, feeding, nap schedule was like became really difficult to pay attention to or keep track of. I now use the Itzbeen timer all the time, and I love it! I recommend it to all moms, new moms especially. I don’t have to try to decode what Squishy wants anymore. If he’s crying and doesn’t need a change or feeding, I can easily look at the timer and figure out that it’s been a while since he had a nap and when I’d put him down for a nap, he’d sleep instantly. The Itzbeen Pocket Nanny isn’t meant to be used to put your baby on a schedule, rather it helps you keep track of your baby’s needs.
The Itzbeen uses three triple-A batteries which are easy to install.
Batteries are not included.
